Win over Jets secures ‘Top Three’ place
Dundee’s men secured the win to grab the third play-off place at the top of National League 1, with a comfortable 3/1 victory over Edinburgh Jets last Saturday. The game had the worst start possible with Boris Prodanov giving the first 2 points away with hitting errors. He recovered quickly and he and Rad Marinov scored 10 points between them to lead 16/11. Mike Coward joined in the front court action at the net and won 4 of the next 5 points to lead 24/15. The home side rallied but Coward hit the last point to win the set 25/18. Dundee had all the momentum and with a run of 3 successive net blocks and scores again from Prodanov and Marinov, took the visitors to 18/14. Dundee were controlling the net and Lewis Crockart and Craig Goldthorpe combined to score a block to give them a lead of 22/20. A Jets time-out helped revive their belief and Dundee’s heroes of Prodanov and Coward then turned villains with 2 hitting errors each to give the set to Jets 25/23.
Both sides traded points in set 3 with the home side scoring a run of 4, taking the scores to 18/18. Dundee pushed ahead and a hit out the back of the court gave the set to Dundee 25/21. The visitors continued to control the game in the fourth set and were never pushed as they strolled to a 25/17 win to take the third spot in the league.
