Untidy performance leads to cup defeat of men
There was a disappointing result in round one of the Scottish Cup for Dundee men with a
shock defeat for the men to St Andrew’s University. The premier league side struggled to find
any rhythm in the opening set and the students took the set easily 25/13. The home side
fought back in set two with Lewis Crockart and Sam Jones scoring well for Dundee and won
the set 25/19. The third set was a repeat of set one with Dundee struggling with lack of
power and St Andrews took the 25/20 for a 2/1 lead. Back came the home side in set four
With Craig Goldthorp and Bartosz Zywert leading the way and they took the set to level the
game 25/18.
Both sides scored points in the early part of set 5 and the teams changed ends at 8/6 to the
students. The visitors were able to score too easily and took the set 15/8 to secure a 3/2
win, leaving the home side with lots of questions about their lack of power at the net.
