Over-powered by rejuvenated Jets
The men’s game followed and a rejuvenated Jets side ere on top form as they controlled the net and overpowered the home side in the opening set. The visitors had little trouble winning the side-out battle and the right to serve and added points with runs of points. Dundee’s Rad Marinov was the main point scorer but Jets were too far ahead at 21/13. Kevin Chisholm added a couple of points for Dundee, but the visitors finished off the set 25/17. A series of 5 errors and points from Craig Goldthorp gave Dundee an 8/7 lead in the second set then a run of 6 points without reply left the home side trailing again. Scores from Mike Coward and Kevin Chisholm hauled the home team closer, but Jets were strong enough to take the set 25/18. A change of line-up allowed Dundee to compete better in the third set with Marinov and Dave Bonnar scoring well to give Dundee a 9/7 lead. Both sides exchanged points, mostly in errors as the game became untidy, but Dundee managed to be in front at 20/17. Former Aberdeen player, Paul Johnston, then sent over a run of serves that destroyed the passing unit and confidence for Jets to finish off the set 25/20 for a 3/0 win.
