Dundee’s men produced their best performance of the season in a re-arranged League 1 game in Coatbridge last Sunday against league leaders Su Ragazzi ll.  With a basic team of 6 players, the visitors took an early 3/0 lead, Colin Mcevoy winning the first 2 points and Boris Prodanov adding the third. Ragazzi hit back, winning 8 of the next 10 points, to lead 8/5.  A service error gave Dundee a cheap point and Prodanov scored 2 service ‘aces’, Mike Coward hit 2 points in counter attacks then Rad Marinov and Barry Millar combined to score a net block.  The run of 6 points gave Dundee an 11/8 lead.  A series of errors and quick points brought the score to 18/18.  A service ‘ace’ from the home side and a block gave Ragazzi a crucial 21/19 lead.  Prodanov scored a winner to win the service and then served another 2 ‘aces’ to give Dundee the advantage.  Both sides traded points to tie the score at 23/23.  Mike Coward scored a big hit through the block from the left of the court to win set point.  Ragazzi levelled then teenager Prodanov hit 2 scores from the right side of the court to win the set 26/24.

The Dundee side switched their line up with Prodanov up against Ragazzi’s George Michail.  The plan worked as Dundee opened up a 13/8 lead, with Mcevoy and Prodanov both scoring 4 points each.  Mark Donnachie then produced a run of probing serves that caused the home side problems.  The home side had to attack from untidy balls and Marinov and Coward won 3 points with their net blocks and a counter attack.  Donnachie scored a service winner to open up a 22/16 lead.  Dundee cruised to a 25/20 win to lead 2/0.

The third set was all about Prodanov as he scored 10 points with a display that belied his teenage years.  He scored at the net with big hits and 2 blocks with another 2 service ‘aces’.  Ragazzi had little in reply as Dundee took the set 25/20 to record a 3/0 win for their first victory in the top three play-offs.  A second place finish and a promotion play-off are still available to the Dundee side.
